Hello Farley Families,

December was a month full of celebration and reflection here at school. The hallways were buzzing with excitement as we celebrated the holidays, honored our FLEP students, and recognized our Spotlight Student for Empathy. We even had a visit from the Polar Express!

As we take a moment to reflect on the past year, we are overwhelmed with gratitude. It is our students and families who make Farley Elementary School such a special place to be. Thank you for your partnership and support in 2025.

As we welcome the New Year, we are shifting our focus to a new PBIS trait: Teamwork. We can't wait to see our students working together to achieve great things in January!

BackPack Program

In partnership with the Regional Food Bank, we host the BackPack Program. This service provides weekend bags of nutritious, kid-friendly food to ensure our students have consistent nourishment. We are dedicated to supporting all families in our school community who can benefit from this program. You can help us reach more families by spreading the word and by donating to our official fundraising page.

The Learning BEAT

4th Grade

ELA Students will research and draft their own nonfiction books. They will also read about vanishing cultures and historical fiction, focusing on distinguishing between facts and opinions.

Math Mathematicians will explore geometry by measuring angles with protractors and identifying lines of symmetry. They will also classify two-dimensional shapes based on properties like parallel and perpendicular lines.

Social Studies Students will explore Colonial New York and the causes of the American Revolution. They will investigate the French and Indian War, increased taxes, and the growing desire for liberty

Science Fourth graders will investigate the science of sound. They will build paper cup telephones to feel vibrations and use digital tools to visualize how sound waves help us communicate.

5th Grade

ELA Students will study expository nonfiction, focusing on text structures and themes. They will research European explorers to draft and publish digital informational picture books that include helpful text features.

Math Students will master adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. They will use number lines and models to create equivalent fractions and solve complex problems.

Social Studies Fifth graders will explore how geography and climate influence culture and settlement in the Western Hemisphere. They will map various regions and research countries to create travel brochures.

Science Students will investigate "Chemical Magic," exploring properties and conservation of matter. They will conduct experiments with dissolving substances and observe chemical reactions to build models of matter’s tiny particles.

6th Grade

ELA Students will draft and revise nonfiction books about Mesopotamia using varied text structures. They will also study biographies of pioneers and use context clues for vocabulary.

Math Students will master rational numbers by extending the number line to include negative values. They will learn absolute value and how to graph coordinates across four quadrants.

Social Studies Students will explore the geography, social classes, and achievements of Ancient Egypt. They will also begin investigating Ancient China, examining how geographic features influenced its unique culture and development.

Science Scientists will investigate climate change causes and model the greenhouse effect. They will analyze ecological footprints before beginning to study Earth’s internal layers and tectonic plate movements.
