Hello Farley Families,

February was a short, but fun filled month! We kicked off the month with the Zuzu Acrobats Assembly and a wonderful Family Fun Night. Our students also stayed active through Klinic Kids and the first of our 4th and 5th-grade ski trips to Mountain Creek. We hope you enjoyed the mid-winter recess and cherished the extra time spent together. As we look toward spring, we are hopeful that the snow is finally behind us.

As shared in Dr. Felicello’s Community Update, please be prepared in the event of additional inclement weather. If additional weather-related closures are necessary, the district will implement a Remote Learning Day. During these days, students will use their school-issued devices to join live instruction via Google Meets, supplemented by independent activities. More information will come as needed.

March is shaping up to be an exciting month! We are eager to witness the incredible skills of our students at the Farley’s Got Talent Show on 3/11. Additionally, we look forward to connecting with you during our upcoming Spring Conferences. We ask that all parents sign up for an appointment slot with their child's teacher to discuss their progress.

BackPack Program

In partnership with the Regional Food Bank, we host the BackPack Program. This service provides weekend bags of nutritious, kid-friendly food to ensure our students have consistent nourishment. We are dedicated to supporting all families in our school community who can benefit from this program. You can help us reach more families by spreading the word and by donating to our official fundraising page.

The Learning BEAT

4th Grade

ELA Students will explore biographies and analyze how subjects' lives are influenced by society. They will practice summarizing events and analyzing literary techniques, such as character complexity and perseverance.

Math 4th graders will master fractions by decomposing them into smaller parts and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. Students will also learn to compare fractions using common denominators and explore adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

Social Studies

Science Students begin the "Energizing Everything" unit, exploring how energy moves and changes. Students will investigate how speed relates to energy, how collisions transfer energy between objects, and even design their own chain-reaction machines to demonstrate energy conversion.
 

5th Grade

ELA Students will conduct research for literary analysis and examine how authors revisit similar themes and settings across different texts. Students will also strengthen their writing by gathering evidence to support claims, preparing specifically for the upcoming state exam's extended literary response essays.

Math Classes will focus on multiplication and division of fractions and decimals. Students will learn to interpret fractions as division, use visual models like tape diagrams to solve real-world problems, and understand multiplication as scaling when working with both fraction and decimal forms.

Social Studies 5th graders explore the diverse geography and governments of the Western Hemisphere. Students analyze how climate and natural resources influence culture and settlement. They also compare political systems, examining the differences between the United States’ representative democracy, Canada’s parliamentary system, and Mexico’s federal republic.

Science Students will explore Earth’s Systems, focusing on how the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere interact. Students will investigate the distribution of water on Earth, develop models to describe the water cycle, and research how communities protect natural resources.
 

6th Grade

ELA

Math 6th graders will expand their algebra skills by using variables to represent unknown quantities. Students will learn to write, evaluate, and simplify expressions using the distributive property and order of operations. They will also practice solving one-step and multi-step equations and inequalities to model real-world scenarios.

Social Studies Students will dive into Classical Civilizations, focusing on the geography, government, and culture of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Students will compare the democratic ideals of Athens with the militaristic society of Sparta and examine how these ancient powerhouses influenced modern law, architecture, and language.

Science Classes will conclude their study of plate tectonics, focusing on the causes and impacts of earthquakes and volcanoes. They then transition to the rock cycle, exploring how heat, pressure, and erosion transform igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks while learning to organize Earth’s history through geologic scales.
