In honor of Veterans Day, Mrs. Luzon's fourth grade class at Farley Elementary School had the privilege of welcoming two incredible veterans, Mr. Thomas Carroll and Mr. Matthew Allison, to share their experiences with our students. The visit sparked meaningful conversations and gave students a deeper understanding of what it means to serve our country.
Students asked thoughtful questions and the veterans shared stories of their responsibilities, the challenges of adjusting to civilian life and staying connected with family through phone calls and cassette tapes. They also talked about life on deployment, including the physical challenges, hot conditions and meals they ate like MREs and C-rations.
Mr. Allison passed around some of his gear, including a compass, tactical vest and helmet, so the students could get a feel for what life as a soldier is like.
To show their appreciation, the students also colored thank-you cards for the veterans. A special thank you to Mr. Carroll and Mr. Allison for their service and for taking the time to share their stories with us. We are grateful for their bravery and sacrifice and for the opportunity to learn from these two generations of veterans who have served our country with honor.
